Technology connects us all. Seven Sunday Films together with Google Cloud APAC creates a new film entitled ‘Better Begins With The Cloud’.

The film is beautifully set dressed and filmed around Jakarta to ensure it captures different parts of the APAC region consisting of India, China, Australia, Japan and Indonesia. The film is directed by Cheong HH, shot by Fahim Rauyan and art directed by Tante Rini.

The grounded storytelling captures not only the grounded authenticity of each respective country but is also heavily supported by the raw emotional performances of each individual talent in the film who helped raise the bar above and beyond to deliver this film to where it is now.

Afeeq Nadzrin, the Executive Producer said – “From the get-go, we knew we had to ensure we delivered the authenticity of this film as it was the most crucial part of the aspect. I can’t be grateful enough of the team for putting in the extra mile to deliver this. We pulled together a beautiful film all of us can enjoy and truly show that Indonesia is up there on par with the big guns. Having Cheong onboard definitely brought a special feeling to this too.”

Cheong added “The outcome of the film goes beyond all expectations and I never expected to achieve to what it is now. Despite the challenges, Seven Sunday Films went above and beyond to demonstrate dedication, especially the art department team. With time constraints, the team worked tirelessly without complaints to bring this film to life. Overall, I am grateful and thankful to everyone involved in the project for their work and contribution. Looking back at this film, I definitely miss all the fun people I worked with on this. Watching it again creates a nostalgic flashback on how fun everything was.”

The film is a gorgeous tapestry of scintillating cinematography shot across Bromo, Bali and Sumba, showcasing the grandeur of Indonesia, and is interwoven with glimpses of deeply personal moments in the lives of the two protagonists.

Brilliantly directed by RLV @ The Braintrust, shot by Pascal Remond and beautifully edited by Dave Singh, the tone and colours of the film is brilliantly brought to life by Parker Javie of Company 3 who was involved in the post-production team for John Wick: Chapter 4.

The seamless storytelling captures not just the amazing performance of the Jeep vehicles across unforgiving terrain, but also the raw force of emotions between a father and his son.

How better to showcase this than to tell an emotional story, that brings alive what the Jeep legacy really means?”

RLV added, “From the get go, we all knew that this would be an exciting but challenging project; considering the budget, timeline, and the intended take away. All parties were involved from the very start of ideation stage, and once Rajesh and myself carved out a direction, we were allowed to go and tell a beautiful story, coupled with a powerful and in-depth script from the agency. This freedom and trust I believe, allowed us to go beyond”.

Seven Sunday Films (SSF) and Jakarta-based lifestyle brand, Dominate have recently collaborated on a short film. The film written and directed by SSF director Angga Anggur, tells the dominance of technology, ‘Questioning all the status quo.’

“The film is about anxiety, combined with symbols and sarcastic narration, packaged with a message for humans to be aware of the power of ‘D.I.Y’ to keep moving and to be ready for the challenges of ‘all-instant’ conditions, in a form of a virtual letter concept,” said Seven Sunday Films, director Angga Anggur.

Anggur explains: “I was fortunate to have been given this opportunity to imagine such a fantastical idea and bring it to life. The film allowed me to push myself beyond the usual norms and up the ante – it gave me the opportunity to inject my passion and style of creativity onto it. I was very happy that the end result, created an even better film that what I had imagined. This unique approach demonstrated Dominates pursuit of perfection, attention to detail and pride in their approach when it comes to going the extra mile”.

Seven Sunday Films ‘in-house’ directing team ‘THE BRAINTRUST’ was tasked with shooting the latest Kia Carens commercial. The epic film, entitled ‘Think of Freedom’, was shot between locations as diverse as Bali and Tulum in Mexico, and features stunning visuals courtesy of acclaimed cinematographer Pascal Remond

In order to bring the film to life, BRAINTRUST and the team had to work harder and faster than normal to achieve a huge amount in a short time, at one stage running three camera units on the same day, as well as overseeing an underwater remote shoot via Zoom in Mexico. The team pushed production boundaries, shooting as high as 2000m on Mt Batur, and 50m under freezing water in Tulum, and going so far as to close down an Airport to create some spectacular car shots on the runways.

Stephen Douglas, Executive Director, Seven Sunday Films says “We knew that we had to create something special, and the team went the extra mile to deliver. At one stage we had the main unit shooting with the director, a 2nd unit shooting on a hilltop and a 3rd unit shooting an underwater scene in Tulum Mexico, so as the team wrapped the Indonesia units they needed to get on Zoom to oversee the shoot in Mexico”

Master editor Dave Singh came on board to deliver a trademark edit that features dynamic moments intercut with an uplifting visual structure, accompanied to a score created by the talented composers of the Rec Room, KL.

Stephen continues “…I understand that this ‘TVC’ is ‘rolling out’ across nineteen territories, including Indonesia. I really feel that after observing this shoot we have cracked a system of shooting our projects over a ‘shorter’ period, whilst maintaining the high production value you would expect from Seven Sunday Films.”

The strategic collaboration will see both companies in a position to service clients from offices across the region including Singapore, Brisbane, Jakarta, Bali, Sydney and Kuala Lumpur.

Tasty Pictures brings to the fore, its specialist team of world class tabletop directors, DP’s, food stylists and cutting edge motion control robot technology, accompanied by internationally trained motion control operators. Currently housed in the purpose built Tasty studio facility in Brisbane, the two BOLT motion control robots make up a combination rarely seen in the Southern Hemisphere, making this unique technology now easily accessible within the region, especially with the growth in remote production shoot models.

As we enter a new year, we have embraced 2020 with a bountiful of learnings, experiences, innovation, a sense of gratitude and so much more. Seven Sunday Films have had the good fortune to remain busy during the past 9 months, enforced lockdowns notwithstanding, we’re now immeasurably experienced in the art of remote shooting, integrating them into our production chain so that your presence is acknowledged, your voices are heard loudly, making you feel that you’re right here with us though many many miles away from set.

On a service production standpoint, we remain your go to guide onto discovering the beauty and incredibly diverse cultures of South East Asia. From a production line capacity or in partnership with one of our top tier locally based directors, odds are – you would want to hop on the next available flight and come here yourself. Fret not, we’re beside you to make the shoot happen regardless and are your attentive and experienced partners throughout.

We speak the same film language as you, and we know what it takes to get the job done so nothing gets lost in translation. The only thing you’ll miss will probably be the wrap drinks – though couriering it over is a possibility.

On all fronts, 2020 was the best thing that ever happened to us. It forced us to reflect, adapt, grow and change in so many ways. It made us physically and mentally stronger and made us innovative in finding new profound ways of combating the economicals of the pandemic which has naturally slowed down the global film production industry.

From high-level remote shooting, reduced film crews, on set – tests and safety protocols, we have successfully abstained our natural desire for close contact with another human by practicing social distancing.

Seven Sunday Films has been blessed in 2020 to be working alongside foreign production companies, local and international agencies and with three of our own projects winning numerous awards before concluding the year. We are honoured to have worked alongside Primo Content and Nico Perez Veiga on Turkish Airlines, who was recently awarded the Argentine Director Of The Year (2020) along with two of our own self-produced commercials for Gudang Garam “Defy My Fate” and Tri Indonesia nabbing numerous trophies at the Citra Pariwara awards.

As we close the curtain on a memorable year, we are excited to see what 2021 will bring us. Here’s to 2020 and a video of all the amazing work we’ve done in the past year. To all the potential adventures, 2020-WON.
